The UGE Operator is responsible for operating the machines required to install underground conduit, cables, transformers, pull boxes, transformer pads, and switchgear for customers. This position supports the Line team and works with personnel throughout the department.
- Operate jobsite equipment safely, such as mobile cranes, bulldozers, angle dozers, front‑end loaders, backhoes, excavators, track hoes, trenchers, and digger‑derricks.
- Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on machines, including checking oil and fluids.
- Inspect work area to ensure it has been staked or located prior to digging.
- Assist maintenance crew or work as a laborer when not operating equipment.
- Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead.
- Train, guide, or oversee lower‑graded operators and laborers when needed.
- Load trucks in a safe and accident‑free manner.
- Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline processes, and deliver seamless customer service.

This role operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing, and twisting, often in extreme weather conditions. It demands clear vision, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to identify colors and judge distances.
- Comply with safety standards and procedures of MasTec or the customer, whichever is higher.
- Minimum qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent, 1 year relevant experience, valid driver's license.
- Preferred qualifications: 2+ years experience, OSHA 10 certification, CDL Class A driver's license.
