The Supplier Quality Engineer position in Mumbai, India is responsible for parts quality and supplier process development, ensuring first‑pass yield and long‑term capability of outsourced parts. The role acts as a bridge between Portescap and its suppliers, guaranteeing that supplied products and processes meet all specified quality requirements.
Key duties include reviewing supplier processes, identifying quality issues, maintaining documentation, and providing technical guidance. The engineer regularly visits suppliers, conducts on‑site audits, coordinates deviation requests, and manages corrective actions with thorough root‑cause analysis and 8D closures. Additional responsibilities involve tracking supplier performance, executing APQP reviews, overseeing PPAP approvals, and ensuring compliance with RoHS, REACH, and Conflict Minerals.
The role also leads continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen, Lean initiatives, and process optimization at supplier sites, while supporting cross‑functional teams in new product development and change management. Supplier scorecards are monitored and updated regularly, and special projects are undertaken as needed.
Education requirements are a diploma with 10+ years of experience or a BE degree with 7+ years, together with strong knowledge of machining, stamping, plastics, and electronics, part validation (PPAP), and quality tools. Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems (Oracle/SAP), engineering drawing interpretation, and standards like ISO/TS16949 is required.
Key internal relationships include Incoming Quality & QA, Production, Engineering, Sourcing, Purchase & Stores; external relationships are with suppliers. Fluency in spoken and written English and Hindi is required.
