As an Operating Engineer at JLL you will provide maintenance, monitoring, and repair services in a critical facilities environment. Under supervisor direction you will ensure continuous operation and preventive maintenance of all building systems, including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear), emergency backup and hot water systems. Your expertise will help maintain maximum reliability and safety for mission‑critical environments.
Day‑to‑day duties include maintaining and adjusting refrigeration, chilled water, air‑conditioning, boilers, ventilators, hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, filters and other mechanical/electrical equipment; conducting regular rounds, recording readings, analyzing system performance and resolving malfunctions; repairing and operating UPS systems, generators, chillers and critical air‑conditioning units; and complying with policies for safe use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials while keeping a clean work environment.
You will also oversee contractor activities within the building to ensure compliance with facility protocols, maintain accurate records of building rounds, readings, engineering logs and data sheets, complete Critical Environment Operations & HSSE training, and follow emergency escalation procedures as well as Critical Facility Work Authorization, MOP/SOP/EOP, Critical Awareness Process, technical bulletins and established engineering procedures.
Required qualifications include hands‑on experience in a data‑center or critical facility environment with UPS systems, emergency generators and switchgear, a high school diploma or GED, working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and CMMS platforms, strong verbal and written communication, excellent organizational and analytical abilities, and the ability to interpret technical documents and solve complex problems independently.
Preferred qualifications are additional technical certifications or licenses related to critical facility operations and experience facilitating or training in critical environment protocols.
The role requires physical ability to perform inspections, repairs, lifting, climbing, confined‑space entry and rapid emergency response. This position is on‑site in Alexandria, VA and does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
