The Senior Estimator role focuses on advanced rail systems and MEP expertise to support cost estimating for major rail and transit infrastructure projects in the Northeast Region. The incumbent will develop accurate, detailed cost estimates for stations, maintenance facilities, trackside infrastructure, signaling, and electrification, while supporting capital program bids, budgeting, and project delivery in a hybrid work schedule.
Key accountabilities include preparing comprehensive cost estimates for rail, mechanical, and electrical systems; analyzing contract documents, drawings, and specifications; leading M&E estimating from concept through final bid; coordinating with engineering, project management, and procurement teams; engaging subcontractors for competitive pricing; assessing project risks and opportunities; supporting value engineering and life‑cycle cost analyses; participating in bid reviews and negotiations; maintaining knowledge of industry standards and emerging technologies; and mentoring junior estimators.
Required qualifications comprise a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience), 10–15 years of estimating experience on rail, transit, or large‑scale infrastructure projects, deep knowledge of transit‑related M&E systems and code compliance (e.g., FRA, NFPA, NEC), and strong proficiency with estimating tools such as HCSS HeavyBid, Sage Estimating, CostX, RS Means, Bluebeam, and Excel. Professional certifications (e.g., AACE, PMP, PE) and familiarity with Amtrak processes and federal procurement standards are advantageous.
The role demands excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet critical deadlines, and understand project management methodologies and reporting standards is essential.
