The Leadman provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to craft workers in the crew, assisting the Foreman while functioning as a journeyman.
This role builds, positions, and dismantles wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters according to sketches, blueprints, or company standards.
- Select and gather required materials and tools.
- Read blueprints and specifications to determine structural dimensions.
- Inspect base surfaces for obstructions.
- Load, transport, and unload materials.
- Measure and mark boards, timbers, or plywood for cutting.
- Utilize hand and power carpentry tools (e.g., hammers, levels, saws, drills).
- Assemble scaffolds with handrails, braces, planks, toe boards, and locking pins per specifications.
- Brace forms with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts for concrete work.
- Secure scaffolding to permanent structures by tying.
- Erect scaffolding and install ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms, and gangways.
- Set and brace anchor bolts.
- Rig materials when needed.
- Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
- Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
- Apply basic mathematics to solve problems.
- Plan work and select appropriate tools.
- Identify differences in size, shape, and form of objects.
- Follow instructions and operate under immediate supervision.

Physical demands include standing (60%), walking (20%), and sitting (20%); lifting up to 50 lb, carrying 40 lb, and pushing/pulling 70 ft‑lb, as well as frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering activities.
A high school diploma or equivalent with related experience is preferred; candidates must have basic field knowledge, follow established guidelines, work under supervision, and do not require independent judgment.
- Saw boards and plywood panels to required sizes.
- Possess high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
- Demonstrate knowledge of common field concepts, practices, and procedures.
