Promote a safety culture where health and safety is a priority by assisting in the progression of the MEMS safety program with a focus on prevention and continual improvement.
Development and delivery of health and safety presentations and training.
Conduct safety inspections in the field and coordinate quarterly office safety inspections.
Review and approve contractor’s safety management systems prior to work commencing
Collaborate with MEMS employees to anticipate, identify, evaluate and determine practical solutions to health and safety risks and issues.
Conduct safety event investigations focused on prevention, root cause analysis and injury reduction.
Assist project teams with the development of project HSE plans in accordance with MEMS HSE program and client requirements.
Execute health and safety projects/initiatives, as required.
Coach and guide employees on MEMS HSE management system, health and safety programs, processes, and OHS legislation. This includes providing onsite field presence to provide constructive feedback through coaching and mentoring.
Support event management and response including responding to after-hours safety events when scheduled.
Thorough knowledge of Provincial OHS legislation and the application to work sites.
Strong interpersonal skills and effective team player.
Required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
Highly motivated energetic individual.
A minimum of five years of experience in safety management preferably in a consulting environment.
Possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license.
Ability to work varying shifts to support MEMS 24-hour event management, as needed or required.
Detail orientated and exceptional creative thinking skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation legislation, regulatory requirements, professional standards, and best practices.
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
Proven experience in development and delivery of safety training.
Exceptional and persuasive oral and written communication skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of contractor’s roles and responsibilities on projects; including evaluation of contractors’ safety programs
Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows applications, including Word and Excel.
Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing.
Office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time with prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens.
Completion of National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or post-secondary certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is required. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is considered an asset.
Ability to successfully provide Health and Safety leadership to all aspects of our projects and operations.
Field safety inspections may include travel in adverse road conditions.
