Work involves shift work, overtime, and weekend schedules, with duties performed both indoors and outdoors under varying heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions. Employees may enter confined spaces such as manholes and vaults, and frequent travel to field locations is required. After onboarding, field staff must live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned site.
The Line Apprentice supports operations by learning to provide and maintain service for new and existing customers. Apprentices gain hands‑on experience with computer systems, tools, equipment, and materials while learning daily distribution system operations. The role requires availability for on‑call duty with a senior crew member and the flexibility to work any hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in both planned outages and emergencies. Safety compliance with all company rules is mandatory.
The position is open at multiple Duke Energy Operation Centers throughout North Carolina and South Carolina, including locations in Asheboro, Wade, Pittsboro, Raleigh, Henderson, Holly Springs, Kingstree, Kinston, Jacksonville, Newport, Spruce Pine, Sumter, and others. Candidates can select a preferred and secondary work site, though assignments may change based on business needs.
After applying, candidates will be invited to complete the Modern Hire Virtual Assessment for Lineworkers within 72 hours. Successful applicants must also pass a Physical Abilities Test, obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license within one year, and meet DOT physical, certification, and respirator clearance requirements.
