Product Specialist

Description

The Product Specialist supports major technical initiatives within Shaw Industries' Residential division by applying specialized knowledge of initial operations. Working closely with engineers, the specialist helps innovate new products, evaluate raw‑material acceptance, and initiate process changes that generate cost savings and strengthen the company's competitive position. Results and recommendations are communicated throughout all organization levels.

In this role, the specialist leads product development from concept through commercialization, maintains tufting process specifications, and oversees the approval of raw materials and equipment. They coordinate laboratory and pilot activities, standardize machine setups, and act as the subject‑matter expert for tufting, yarn, and face constructions. Technical support for quality investigations, monitoring of process control trends, and identification of training needs are also essential functions.

• Lead development of new products from concept through commercialization.
• Create and maintain process specifications for tufting operations.
• Evaluate and approve raw materials and equipment for production.
• Coordinate laboratory and pilot projects, including XR, MTR, and trial runs.
• Audit and standardize machine setups for existing and new products.
• Serve as subject‑matter expert in tufting, yarn, and face constructions.
• Provide technical support for quality and downtime investigations using Lean tools.
• Approve NSPs for manufacturing runs based on machine capability and product specs.
• Monitor and analyze process control trends with tools such as TMS3.
• Identify training needs and conduct training sessions for associates.
• Deliver performance feedback and support employee evaluations.
• Promote “flow to work” concepts among team members.
• Lead or participate in special projects such as Green Belt, Kaizen, WPIT, and EIT initiatives.
• Submit and manage process/procedure changes in SMS via AODocs.
• Collaborate with maintenance planners and engineers to resolve mechanical/electrical issues.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and machine upkeep as required.
• Ensure a safe working environment and actively engage in team meetings.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Solve complex problems using analytical methods.
• Communicate results and recommendations clearly.
• Work on an 8‑hour non‑rotating shift with standard calendar schedule.

Requirements

The position requires strong collaboration, a continuous‑improvement mindset, problem‑solving ability, and effective communication. Candidates must have at least five years of carpet manufacturing or product‑development experience, extensive tufting process knowledge, and a high‑school diploma, with technical certifications preferred. • Expertly use manufacturing software including Tuftco, CMC, Microsoft 365, and GLink.
• Minimum 5 years experience in carpet manufacturing or product development.
• Deep knowledge of tufting processes or related manufacturing.
• High school diploma (technical certifications or further education preferred).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, GLink, Shop Flex, and related systems.
