The Engineer‑in‑Training will work under the direct supervision of an Engineer and will be responsible for tasks such as completing distribution designs, placing material orders, issuing work orders, inspecting field construction and maintenance, and reviewing engineering processes for compliance with policies, standards and regulatory requirements. They will also provide engineering and customer‑experience insights, develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders (City of Edmonton, Telus, developers, contractors, etc.), and mentor co‑op students.
EPCOR’s Electricity Operations is hiring a full‑time, permanent Engineer‑in‑Training based in Edmonton, AB. The role is in Customer Connections and involves completing overhead and underground electric distribution design, reviewing customer plans for service and micro‑generation, using standards/specifications, and identifying process improvements. The position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program.
Candidates must hold an engineering degree (Electrical or Civil preferred), be a Registered Engineer‑in‑Training with APEGA, and have 1‑3 years of engineering experience (utility experience is an asset). Required knowledge includes electric power systems, aerial and underground distribution design, relevant codes (Canadian Electrical Code Part I, Alberta Electric Utility Code, CSA standards), EPCOR’s Customer Connection Guide, and design software such as SPIDA Calc, SAG 10, PLSCAD, PullPlanner. Strong communication, collaboration, a positive learning mindset, and proficiency with MS Office (and GIS tools like IVARA/Electric Office) are also required.
The role works 80 hours bi‑weekly, requires candidates to be at least 18 years old, have a high‑school diploma or equivalent, and be legally entitled to work in Canada. Background checks, medical/drug testing, and possibly a technical assessment are part of the selection process. Candidates must be physically fit to work in all weather conditions and maintain safe driving records.
