The Lead Generator Mechanical Engineer is tasked with designing mechanical components of hydro generators for installed‑based projects and delivering technical support throughout the supply chain and site phases.
The role operates remotely and collaborates globally with engineering Centers of Excellence, project engineering managers and consulting engineers, contributing to design work packages, reviews, calculations, specifications, drawings and bills of materials while supervising junior engineers and applying reliability, quality, safety and cost principles.
- Deliver design work packages for hydro generator projects using technical guidelines and reference projects.
- Collaborate with global engineering Centers of Excellence.
- Lead and participate in design review meetings with engineers, functions and consultants.
- Supervise design engineers and draftsmen.
- Produce design calculations, technical specifications, drawings and bills of materials.
- Provide technical support to supply‑chain and site teams throughout the generator component lifecycle.
- Apply reliability, quality, safety and cost rules and concepts.
- Assist project engineering managers in project execution.

Candidates must hold a mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree, possess strong strength‑of‑materials knowledge, experience with non‑destructive examination, materials and welding, and at least five years of generator mechanical design experience; they should demonstrate pro‑activeness, communication, leadership, analytical skills, be a licensed (or soon‑to‑be) Professional Engineer, and be willing to travel within North America.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
- Strong knowledge of strength of materials.
- Familiarity with non‑destructive examination methods, materials and welding.
- Minimum 5 years experience in generator mechanical design (stators, rotors, bearings, brackets).
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities; able to work in multicultural, multi‑location environments.
- Strong analytical and team‑player mindset; willingness to learn and adapt.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or eligibility for licensure shortly.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally within North America.
- Experience with CAD tools.
- Prior experience in the hydro industry.
