The Columbia Controller and Director of Plant Accounting at NiSource provides senior leadership with analysis, strategic advice, and recommendations on operational, capital, and regulatory matters while overseeing fixed‑asset accounting for the entire company. This role plans, organizes and directs financial statement preparation, cash management, and regulatory filings to deliver accurate data to internal and external stakeholders and to state and federal commissions.
The controller manages a multi‑talented accounting team, conducts performance evaluations and promotes professional development, while ensuring consistent application of GAAP and regulatory accounting standards. Responsibilities include overseeing the monthly close, preparing financial statements, generating management reports, and filing state commission reports.
Collaboration is central to the role, working with construction and operations teams to determine appropriate accounting treatment, partnering with corporate accounting for consolidated NiSource reporting and SEC disclosures, and supporting regulatory testimony, rate case preparation, and commission audits. The controller also drives process‑improvement initiatives, ensures SOX compliance, and provides audit support.
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline, CPA certification, and at least ten years of relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably in public utility accounting and public accounting. Candidates must demonstrate proven leadership abilities, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the capacity to lead projects, influence executive stakeholders, and deliver technical advice. Preferred qualifications include an MBA, experience with PeopleSoft Financials or similar systems, and a background in SEC reporting.
NiSource offers a salary range of $155,400 to $233,100, with compensation based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
