As a member of the mechanical design team, you will work within a multi‑discipline engineering and design project team to develop mechanical equipment locations, piping layouts, and pipe‑support deliverables. You will participate in 3D model reviews, coordinate detailed design phases, and support other designers to ensure complete and timely designs. You will layout mechanical equipment and piping, maintaining required clearances using 3D modeling software, and develop physical piping layouts and pipe‑support designs in an integrated 3D environment.
You will work with vendor drawings and 3D models to verify equipment connection points, collaborate with other design disciplines to meet physical clearances, constructability, accessibility, and O&M requirements, and coordinate with piping stress and structural engineers on pipe‑support details. Additionally, you will produce 2D mechanical equipment location, piping isometric, composite drawings, pipe‑support drawings, and generate complete bills of materials for piping and supports.

Essential qualifications include an Associate’s Degree in drafting or a high‑school diploma with 4+ years of drafting experience, and 8+ years of detailed physical design experience in mechanical general arrangements, piping systems, and supports, including 3+ years in the nuclear power industry.
Candidates must be proficient in 3D integrated plant modeling tools such as MicroStation or AutoCAD, capable of reading spreadsheets generated from 3D models, experienced in reviewing mechanical equipment outlines and interface points, and able to interface with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams. Experience with MicroStation is valued but not required.
WORK LOCATION: This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners, GA.
