Key responsibilities include collaborating with clients and internal teams to set project goals, developing conceptual designs, and ensuring compliance with healthcare codes and hospital licensing standards. The architect manages the production of construction documents, conducts site visits, responds to RFIs, reviews submittals, and oversees punch‑list activities. They also provide leadership during client meetings, coordinate with consultants and contractors, and contribute innovative, evidence‑based design solutions.
The Healthcare Architect III reports to the Senior Architect/Project Manager and operates as an exempt position. The role requires a certified licensed architect with at least eight years of specialized experience in healthcare design, capable of handling medium to large‑scale renovation, addition, and new‑facility projects. The architect leads planning, design coordination, and delivery while mentoring junior team members and participating in clinical user group meetings throughout the design phases.
The position demands strong technical proficiency, including advanced Revit skills, expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, and experience using SketchUp or Rhino, with rendering tools such as Lumion, Enscape, or V‑Ray considered advantageous. A thorough understanding of zoning, building codes, NFPA, ADAAG, FGI, OBC, IBC, and related agency requirements is essential, along with excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities. A collaborative work ethic, passion for client service, and experience with OSHPD, HCAI, and behavioral health projects further support success in this role.
The work environment is a professional open‑office setting with shared collaborative areas, video conferencing, and a café, while occasional visits to construction sites may involve varying temperatures, dust, noise, and potentially hazardous conditions. Physical demands include eight‑hour days of hand and wrist dexterity, the ability to lift construction documents, and prolonged periods of sitting.
Candidates should hold a Bachelor of Architecture (or related degree) with a Master of Architecture preferred, along with a certified architectural license; NCARB certification, LEED AP, and sustainable design experience are advantageous. The full‑time role expects a minimum of 40 hours per week, with travel varying by project phase and location.
