You will work on major infrastructure projects for the water industry, renewable energy schemes such as some of the UK’s largest solar farms, coastal defences and electricity transmission network reinforcement. The portfolio also includes HRA delivery for local authority Local Plans, Minerals and Waste Plans, and Local Transport Plans. These projects span the UK, the Republic of Ireland and potentially other European locations.
Support the development of technically robust and pragmatic solutions to complex HRA issues and lead high‑quality consultancy and advisory services for internal and external clients. Produce and review HRA reports for Local Plans and Development Consent Orders, while interpreting noise, water‑quality and air‑quality data. Author or technically check project deliverables to ensure high‑quality outputs and provide expert‑witness services on Local Plan HRAs and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project examinations. Prepare commercially strong bids and tenders for HRA services across energy, defence, local authority strategic planning and water sectors. Oversee planning, scheduling and resource allocation for all phases of HRA projects, maintaining budgets and direct client contact.
Our Nature business comprises around 230 professional experts, including species licence holders and leaders in impact assessment, habitat creation and ecosystem restoration. You will thrive in an inclusive, forward‑thinking environment where contributions are valued.
The ideal candidate has proven experience leading and managing HRA work, delivering projects, managing budgets and engaging stakeholders. Experience in work‑winning, reviewing technical work and supporting team members is essential. Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., CIEEM) and progress toward chartership is required, along with a full driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites. Professionals from other environmental disciplines with strong HRA knowledge are also encouraged to apply.
The role offers the opportunity to enhance your HRA expertise, advocacy and expert‑witness skills, or develop them if you lack experience. You will also gain exposure to related disciplines such as ecological surveying, environmental impact assessment, recreational studies, air‑quality assessments and noise modelling. Continuous professional growth is supported through AECOM’s networks and training programmes.
