The Library Aide supports the daily operations of both a general‑purpose and a law library that serves the social, educational, and legal needs of the inmate/resident population. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a catalog system, creating schedules for inmate access, and enforcing all library policies to ensure a safe environment.
The role involves assisting patrons in locating and selecting materials by searching catalog files, dictionaries, and indexes, as well as recommending new acquisitions that meet the population’s needs. The aide also trains inmate workers on receiving, shelving, and locating books, handles routine inquiries, processes check‑ins and check‑outs, maintains a tracking system for material location, and conducts inventories as required.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, at least two years of library experience—preferably in acquisition, cataloging, reference, and bibliography creation—a valid driver’s license, and a minimum age of 18.
