The APD ensures successful delivery of key assignments, providing strategic direction and monitoring progress against the overall vision and objectives. Responsibilities cover the full project lifecycle—from inception and design development through contractor procurement, construction and post‑completion—while managing timeframes, budgets and risk mitigation. The role promotes collaboration among clients, consultants and contractors, produces integrated design and authority programmes, and oversees staging plans and delivery sequencing.
Integrity underpins the role, with responsibility for project budgets, fiscal and ethical viability, and compliance with organisational and legislative requirements. The APD will support the operations director and senior stakeholders in shaping long‑term strategy for the function or business unit, contributing to a sustainable future. Ownership of upholding Mace values and holding others accountable is expected.
Creating opportunities for people to excel involves leading the team effectively and developing individuals to reach their full potential. The APD will actively network, innovate and leverage Mace’s centres of excellence, knowledge hubs and the Mace way control centre. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, up to C‑suite level, is essential to implement and manage programmes.
Safety first is a core value; the APD will advocate for Mace’s safety standards and be accountable for maintaining exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability and compliance. Advanced technical knowledge of local health and safety regulations relevant to the project portfolio is required. The role also champions a diverse, inclusive environment and the wellbeing of the people managed.
Candidates must have extensive experience delivering projects and programmes in the healthcare sector, deep property or infrastructure project management expertise, and strong commercial and financial acumen. Required credentials include NEC4 ECC project manager accreditation and membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE or equivalent. Proven track record of winning work, growing client accounts, leading large diverse teams, managing senior stakeholder relationships, and understanding carbon and sustainability considerations is essential.
