Load Builder I Yard/Warehouse

Description

Under general supervision, the Materials Handler loads and unloads materials within the yard or at job sites and assembles load packages for delivery to customer locations, following work orders and safety guidelines.

Work is performed in a production or yard environment with temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, equipment noise and dust. The role frequently requires lifting up to 25 lb and occasionally up to 80 lb, as well as occasional climbing, pushing, or kneeling.

• Load and unload materials onto/from pallets, trucks, and customer vehicles.
• Install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Build load packages, determining appropriate weight, composition, and placement.
• Read work orders or follow oral instructions to identify materials to be moved.
• Transport materials using hand trucks, electric dollies, forklifts, or other devices.
• Open containers, units, and slings using hand tools such as steel cutters and crowbars.
• Attach tags or labels to materials for correct identification.
• Follow and promote safety procedures; attend periodic safety meetings.
• Count items and verify quantities against prepared lists.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED and at least three months of related experience are required, along with forklift operator certification; equivalent education and experience combinations are also considered.

• Maintain manual dexterity and ability to read/write work orders and labeling tasks.
