Mechanical Engineering Co-Op

Description

• Work with drawings and models using SolidEdge /3DX
• Design fixturing, mold components, and other tooling
• Work with process engineering team on capital projects and new product development efforts
• Create instruction bulletins or process specification procedures for standard work practices related to manufacturing tooling/processes
• Lifting: Occasional lifting of production parts and tooling less than 50 pounds.
• Run software simulations pertaining to injection molding processes and mold designs
• Pulling: Infrequent pulling of objects, possibly related to production support or lab work
• Handling: Occasional handling of parts or tools, and hazardous and non-hazardous materials
• Conduct experiments and write clear, concise engineering test reports describing the procedures, results, analyses, and conclusions
• Assist with continuous improvement and 5S activities and initiatives
• Collect and analyze process data using statistical tools
• Assist with mold maintenance continuous improvement projects
• Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects such as measuring equipment, prints, etc.

Requirements

• Standing: Occasional standing in lab while performing routine tasks
• Strong organization and presentation skills, including ability to prioritize workloads and maintain documentation
• Must be in good standing as a student at the bachelor’s degree level at an accredited university majoring in Mechanical Engineering or a related major and returning to school full-time after the work session
• Basic bookkeeping skills and ability to read drawings
• Ability to think analytically, independently, and outside of the box to provide fresh ideas to improve processes
• Ability to work with people in a production/plant environment
• Walking: Frequent walking throughout the facility both indoors and outdoors.
• Other: Frequent use of personal computer , keyboard , and monitor .
• Proficiency in the use of PC using Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and Access
• Ability to work full-time (6 months preferred)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to commute and work onsite at S&C in Rogers Park, Chicago, IL
