Responsibilities include developing and delivering strategic planning and policy studies, assessing development potential, preparing local spatial plans, and producing infrastructure delivery and funding bid documents. The planner will identify and pursue new business opportunities, lead tender responses, and expand the client network across AtkinsRéalis. Managing inputs from diverse disciplines and supporting strategic advice for internal and external clients are also key elements of the position.
The firm is seeking a Principal/Associate Spatial Planner to strengthen the Northern Transformation Programme and support place‑planning initiatives across the North of England, particularly in the North West and Yorkshire. The role sits within the national ‘place planning’ strategy group and works closely with the PECC, Buildings and Places market, and other multidisciplinary teams. It requires a Chartered Planner with a proven record of delivering strategic advice to both public and private development sectors.
Candidates must hold a relevant degree in Town Planning and be Chartered members of the RTPI. Experience in managing multi‑disciplinary projects, client engagement, and business development is essential, as is a passion for urbanism and placemaking. Familiarity with national and regional policies, consenting processes (DCO, TWAO, TCPA, CPO) and funding mechanisms such as grant regimes and syndicated financing is required.
The role may require UK security clearance, subject to a vetting process that confirms at least five years of UK residency. Candidates should not disclose any existing or prior clearance in their applications.
