What you would be doing

  • Liaise with clinical staff before starting works, ensuring safety and clear communication.
  • Prepare surfaces and apply finishes including paint, varnish, and wallpaper.
  • Carry out fabric works, including painting, patching, sanding, and minor wall protection replacements.
  • Support small works projects and variations as directed by Equans line management.
  • Safely mix and match paint to meet hospital design specifications.
  • Promote a positive safety, diversity, and inclusion culture in line with Equans policies.
  • Conduct inspections and touch-ups to maintain high standards of appearance.
  • Complete point-of-work risk assessments and adhere to RAMS, SLAs, KPIs, and Health & Safety standards.
  • Respond to urgent reactive painting and decoration requests, including emergency repairs during shift hours.
  • Manage site materials effectively and ensure PPE is always worn.
  • Work in sensitive areas (wards, operating theatres, labs) with minimal disruption, following infection control protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and time spent.
  • Deliver planned lifecycle programmes of internal & external painting, decoration, and maintenance.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality finishes.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Completed a relevant apprenticeship and qualified to minimum NC (or NVQ equivalent) level.
  • Proven experience as a painter (healthcare experience desirable but not essential).
  • Experience in minor plastering, surface repair, and wallpaper application.
  • Disclosure Scotland to PVG level required.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
