GridStor provides intelligent energy storage solutions for a sustainable future.
The Director of Preconstruction reports to the Senior Vice President of EPC and oversees EPC functions from project origination through notice‑to‑proceed for utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects nationwide. This role serves as the primary technical and commercial strategist during the early, mid, and advanced project stages, working closely with Development and M&A teams to de‑risk assets, validate costs, and ensure projects are shovel‑ready for construction.
Key responsibilities include providing due‑diligence and cost‑modeling support for development and M&A initiatives, managing engineering resources to deliver 10‑30% design packages, and maintaining CAPEX/OPEX models that ensure cost certainty. The director also creates integrated schedules, leads EPC contractor selection and contract negotiations, oversees long‑lead equipment procurement, and manages the handover of pre‑construction deliverables to the construction team.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field and bring at least eight years of construction or pre‑construction experience, with five years focused on utility‑scale battery storage projects. Required competencies include deep BESS technology knowledge, proven commercial acumen in multi‑million‑dollar EPC contracts, proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Project or Primavera, AutoCAD/Bluebeam, and strong organizational, communication and problem‑solving skills. The role prefers candidates based in Portland and available for a hybrid work schedule.
