The Bookkeeper calculates, verifies, and posts financial data, maintains accounting records, ensures proper coding of transactions, and assists in maintaining a current checking account balance for the facility. They also prepare reports, correspondence, and conduct inventory of commissary operations.
Responsibilities include maintaining petty and commissary checking balances, preparing and verifying bank deposits, processing check requests, handling month‑end documentation, and coordinating purchases that do not require FSC approval.
The Bookkeeper prepares accounts payable packages, accruals, petty cash reimbursements, and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
They process inmate/resident account transactions—deposits, withdrawals, fees, fund releases or transfers—and assist with daily balancing of the inmate fund.
The role also involves assigning or verifying correct account codes for purchase orders, accounts payable, check requests, vouchers, and other expenditures to ensure proper allocation before settlement.
The role requires knowledge of applicable accounting and internal control procedures in line with GAAP, company, and partnership policies while maintaining documentation and records.
