This role oversees onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of drivers and helpers, building positive relationships with front‑line staff while spending most of the day in the field.
The manager ensures new employees receive tools, instruction, and feedback, holds daily check‑ins, provides regular touchpoints, reviews best practices, supports career goals, identifies improvement opportunities, seeks feedback on coaching, and models safety and the WM Way.
The manager conducts root‑cause investigations for injuries, maintains regulatory documentation, audits route operation records such as DVIRs and attendance, and visits customers to resolve safety issues and explore service alternatives.
- Onboard, develop, coach, mentor, and manage performance of all drivers and helpers.
- Provide tools, instruction, and feedback to new frontline employees for daily duties.
- Conduct daily meetings and regular touchpoints with frontline staff to ensure consistent communication.
- Review best practices and support employee career goal progression.
- Identify improvement opportunities and collaborate with employees for continued success.
- Lead safety initiatives, model safe practices, and teach the WM Way.
- Conduct root‑cause investigations for injuries/incidents and coordinate discipline and retraining.
- Maintain and audit regulatory documentation (DOT records, DVIRs, time‑and‑attendance, tickets).
- Visit customers and sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues and explore service alternatives.

Candidates need an associate’s degree or high school diploma plus two years’ experience, be at least 18, eligible to work, and hold a valid driver’s license; completing the WM Operations Manager Trainee program is preferred.
- Required: Associate’s degree (or high school diploma with 2 years experience), minimum age 18, legal work eligibility, valid driver’s license.
- Preferred: Completion of WM Operations Manager Trainee program.
