Tasks

-Regularly review the accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are accounted for and accurately posted and applied. -Stays abreast of ‘best practices’ in accounting pronouncements, issuances or changes by or in fund accounting principles, GAAP and GASB, Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). -Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant processing and reporting of all financial transactions. -Conduct regular assessments of accounting systems, processes, and controls to ensure integrity, efficiency, and compliance. -Manage and implement robust and efficient accounting systems and procedures to enhance accuracy and compliance within the transit operations. -Coordinate with Grants Management and oversee the grants accounting process, ensuring proper accounting of grant funds and compliance with grant requirements. -Conduct and utilize research to influence stakeholders and target markets. -Ensure consistent compliance with federal, state, local, and industry-specific laws, regulations, and standards related to transit and grants accounting. -Analyze expenditure, track invoices, and sub-ledger details, and resolve any discrepancies encountered. -Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment and adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and regulations. -Coordinate and resolve various issues with billing and invoice systems, including invoice discrepancies and adjustments. -Develop and nurture relationships that culminates into overall success. -Essential Function(s): Lead and manage all financial transactional activities for the Authority, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants accounting. -Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounts receivable department, including billing, private, government grants, and collections. -Review applicable accounting reports and accounts payable register to ensure accuracy. -Communicate with other departments and vendors regarding invoice approvals and payment queries. -Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

-Proven management skills encompassing the leading of a team, the execution of upper management directives, and evaluating priorities to meet department goals. -Minimum of 3 years progressively responsible and relevant accounting or finance experience, including 1 year of supervision of staff personnel. -Advanced degree -Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field. -A strong work ethic to produce a focused, dedicated work team - among both internal and external stakeholders - with a focus on collaboration, mentoring, nurturing and the delivery of exceeded goals. -Related certifications -Strong organizational, analytic and tactical-thinking skills. -Actively demonstrate JTA’s Elements of a Leader, including being engaged, courageous, a good communicator, empathetic, a critical thinker, a team player, a strategic thinker, customer-focused, a change agent/innovative, inspirational/high energy, accountable, and having integrity. -Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with sensitivity, passion, and a focus on unity and equity.
