A Power Transmission Engineer will be responsible for activities such as site walks, computer modeling, sizing structures, and transmission line components, designing foundations, coordinating with survey/geotech/manufacturers, creating a bill of materials, communicating with internal and external project managers, applying customary engineering design principles, and critical thinking.

  • Design of high voltage (69 kV to 500 kV) transmission lines using PLS-CADD.
  • Incorporate schedules, budgets, and project criteria into transmission design and layouts.
  • Producing initial rough designs, sketches, redlines, or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Organizing and maintaining all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
  • Analyzing reports, drawings, and tests, to plan and design projects.
  • Providing mentorship for younger power engineers.
  • Perform computer modeling and sizing of structures and transmission line components.
  • Applying design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Preparing engineering drawings from rough sketches or general engineering and design information (verbal instructions and notes) using CAD software programs.
  • Creation of comprehensive drawing packages within the utility infrastructure industry for transmission line systems.
  • Working on various assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches.
  • Completing a full range of drawing production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on substantial variety and complexity of non-routine assignments.
  • Completing and reviewing design drawings within scope, budget, and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Coordinating with Survey/Geotech/Manufacturers.
  • Participating in site walks for current projects. Less than 10% travel.

  • Thrives in a work environment where one collaboratives with other team members (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve appropriate design or drawing issues and accomplish objectives.
  • Prociency in design software to develop the design deliverables. Must be proficient with PLS CADD and AutoCAD.
  • 4+ years of design experience in the Power industry, consulting background preferred.
  • Comprehend and interpret safety codes, utility standards, and regulations (NESC, ASCE, IEEE).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Experience with tower structures (pole, lattice, guyed).
  • PE Licensure or EIT working towards taking the PE exam.
  • Experience developing estimates and budgets.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
