The Senior Instructional Designer leads the design and development of innovative training programs for RailPros’ clients, collaborating with subject‑matter experts, safety officers, and operations leaders. The role drives regulatory‑compliant, operationally excellent learning solutions and provides guidance to other designers and content developers.
- Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to create engaging, multimedia-rich course content
- Lead end-to-end design and development of learning materials, including assessments
- Manage a cross-functional development team throughout project lifecycles
- Design inclusive learning experiences that address diverse learning styles
- Collaborate with SMEs to identify training needs and close knowledge gaps
- Recommend curriculum strategies based on needs analysis
- Define instructional goals and align content accordingly
- Contribute to project proposals, covering scope, design plans, timelines, and budgets
- Produce training deliverables such as ILT guides, eLearning modules, exams, and surveys
- Support media production including audio, video, animations, simulations, and games
- Create interactive exercises and activities to reinforce learning
- Establish performance criteria and develop assessment tools
- Maintain project documentation and course assets
- Conduct post‑training evaluations and recommend improvements

The Senior Instructional Designer position is located in Jacksonville, FL (32256) and is a full-time, day-shift role. Candidates must hold a four-year degree, and up to 10% travel may be required. This role falls within the Training job category.
Applicants need a bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Communications, Education, or a related field and at least five years of experience creating employee development programs. Strong client‑facing and project‑management skills are required, and a master’s degree, HTML5 competence, railroad industry experience, and LMS experience are preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design for classroom, self‑guided, and virtual training
- Extensive experience with eLearning development tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate)
- High proficiency in creating instructor‑led training materials and PowerPoint presentations
- Strong partnership and collaboration skills to achieve results
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Superior proofreading and copywriting skills for instructional text and scripts
- Highly proficient in time management, organization, planning, and prioritization
- Proficient with electronic communications and Microsoft Office Suite
- Master’s degree in Communications, Instructional Design, or related field (preferred)
- HTML5 competency (preferred)
- Railroad or similar industry experience (preferred)
- Media production experience (preferred)
- Experience working within a Learning Management System (LMS) (preferred)
- Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential (preferred)
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM‑CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM‑SCP) credential (preferred)
