Description

• Perform site evaluations, conceptual layouts, and preliminary designs for solar PV and battery/energy storage projects.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of Dispatch Energy’s design processes and standards.
• Support cost estimating, risk assessments, and constructability reviews.
• Prepare technical documentation for permitting, interconnection, and proposal submissions.
• Review geotechnical, topographic, and environmental studies to inform design strategy.
• Participate in site visits and meetings — requiring travel up to 30% — to gather data, verify conditions, and coordinate design efforts.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements.
• Model and analyze system performance using PVSyst, Helioscope, and related design tools.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including electrical, structural, civil, and environmental engineers.
• Review grading, drainage, and civil site designs that improve constructability and minimize environmental impact.
• Conduct feasibility assessments and due diligence for prospective renewable energy projects.

We are seeking a Development Engineer with a strong civil/electrical engineering background to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically skilled, and motivated by innovation in solar and battery storage system design.

The Development Engineer will play a key role in the technical development, feasibility assessment, and early-stage design of solar PV and energy storage projects. This position requires hands-on experience in civil/electrical design, strong analytical capabilities, and proficiency with PVSyst and Helioscope. This role will collaborate closely with project developers, engineers, and construction teams to evaluate project viability, optimize layouts, and ensure all designs meet technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The position may require travel up to 30% of the time for site evaluations, design reviews, and coordination with project stakeholders.

• Proficiency in PVSyst and Helioscope for modeling and optimization.
• Experience developing both distributed generation and commercial-scale renewable projects.
• Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Exposure to SCADA systems and performance monitoring tools.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to bridge engineering and development functions.
• Skilled in AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and related civil design software.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in renewable energy, solar, and site civil design.
• Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NEC, ASCE, IBC, and local permitting regulations).
• Understanding of battery energy storage system (BESS) design and integration.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree a plus).
• Familiarity with interconnection, permitting, and environmental review processes.
• Understanding of grading, drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management principles.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced development environment.
