EHSS Advisor

Description

As the site’s subject matter expert and first point of contact for EHSS matters, you’ll work closely with site leadership and employees to foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

This role is pivotal in driving the delivery of our ‘Elevate EHSS’ agenda at site level. You will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring legal compliance, and embedding best practice across environmental, health, safety, and security disciplines.

• Organise and document monthly EHSS committee meetings.
• Ensure full legal compliance with applicable EHSS regulations and permits.
• Maintain strong working relationships with external service providers and regulatory contacts.
• Escalate high-risk issues promptly and appropriately.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to raise standards and performance.
• Monitor and report environmental, safety, and sustainability (ESG) data on a monthly basis.
• Audit EHSS compliance checks for all contractors on site.
• Assess site EHSS training needs and proactively close gaps.
• Ensure timely, accurate incident investigations in line with company and regulatory standards.
• Cascade changes in policies, regulations, or standards to site management and stakeholders.
• Promote awareness and ownership of EHSS roles and responsibilities across all colleagues.
• Oversee and coordinate the site’s statutory inspections and ensure timely completion of follow-up actions.
• Lead site-level EHSS risk reduction projects.
• Audit RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) to ensure suitability and compliance.
• Regularly review and update induction materials for site-specific relevance and compliance.
• Log and manage all EHSS activities and actions through the company’s management system (OPUS).
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate EHSS training for managers and employees, including new starter inductions.
• Conduct regular site audits against the ‘Critical 15’ and develop/action improvement plans.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced and proactive EHSS Advisor to join our team in Rainham.

• Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Knowledge of environmental permits (e.g. water discharge/TSS).
• NEBOSH General Certificate (mandatory).
• IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management.
• Strong working knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a similar EHSS role within the UK.
• TechIOSH membership.
