

Provides construction, maintenance, and fabrication services for industrial, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
Key responsibilities are to operate various sizes and models of excavators, read stakes and place grades, follow all company, client, and legislative safety policies, and use appropriate personal protective equipment. The operator must review safe work plans, conduct equipment walk‑arounds and field risk assessments, report repairs, incidents, near‑misses, and ensure equipment is operating correctly.
Candidates need 2‑3 years of excavator experience, preferably with at least one year in a mining environment, and must be able to work in soft ground (muskeg) and frost conditions. Required qualifications include CSO or BSO certification, Silica Awareness training, a valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a recent abstract, proficiency in English, strong organization, and fitness‑to‑work testing; a high‑school diploma, GED, or post‑secondary education is an asset.
Applicants must provide a recent driver’s abstract, CSO/BSO, Silica, Wood Buffalo Wildlife, OHS Alberta, and H2S awareness certifications, and will undergo pre‑employment testing such as breath alcohol, urine drug, fitness‑to‑work health assessment, audiometric, vision screening, and criminal record check. Random testing may be required at Suncor, Fort Hills, and Kearl sites.
The position is located at a Suncor site and follows a 14‑day rotation of 12‑hour shifts, covering both days and nights. Transportation is provided by bus from Fort McMurray, while camp accommodations are not supplied, and overtime is paid after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.
Compensation includes a maximum combined rate of $53.82 per hour, vacation and statutory holiday pay, up to 61 overtime hours per rotation, a night‑shift premium of $1.20 per hour, and weekly payroll. Employees receive IUOE Local 955 membership, benefits and pension after 400 hours, medical and dental coverage, transportation savings, PPE, and room for career advancement.
