The Construction Director is a key leader responsible for driving operational excellence and strategic growth within utility‑scale solar projects. Reporting to the Vice President, the Director oversees Project Managers and senior construction staff to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with safety standards. This remote position supports projects across the United States, requiring up to 50% travel to job sites and includes a vehicle allowance and company credit card.
- Implement division direction, coordination, and evaluation.
- Interview, train, assign, and supervise employees; appraise performance and resolve complaints.
- Lead and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist the Division VP in developing and executing the strategic business plan.
- Ensure departmental profitability and achieve client‑satisfaction targets.
- Oversee hiring, training, and retention of department staff.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, owners, and clients; coordinate with the Safety Director on site safety issues.
- Resolve conflicts involving subcontractors, material delays, contract disputes, and trade issues.
- Maintain open communication with staff, monitor job progress, schedules, and subcontractor performance, and manage field operations.
- Manage and mentor Project Managers and Field Superintendents, providing feedback and conducting annual performance reviews.
- Capture team members’ ideas and help implement new policies and procedures.
- Participate in divisional management meetings and contribute to overall division success.
- Attend industry trade shows and conferences on management and construction topics.
- Conduct regular site visits as needed.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or possess an equivalent blend of education and experience, and have at least 10 years of construction experience, preferably in solar or EPC environments. Required competencies include safety leadership, blueprint and contract interpretation, strong written and verbal communication, quantitative analysis, problem‑solving, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Primavera, Viewpoint, and other construction software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) and 10 years of construction experience.
- Solar or EPC industry background with knowledge of construction techniques, estimating, and project management.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, technical documents, contracts, and regulations.
- Strong written communication for reports, business correspondence, and documenting project activities.
- Skilled at presenting information and responding to stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in quantitative calculations such as percentages, volumes, and financial figures.
- Effective problem‑solving skills for practical, variable‑rich situations.
- Capability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, Primavera, Viewpoint, and construction software.
