The R&LP team works to understand, predict and manage current and future risks to service by delivering assets that are safe, reliable, resilient and perform as expected. As an Engineering Project Manager you will have autonomy to manage your own tasks while collaborating with industry professionals to shape process design decisions and deliver the right capital‑maintenance solutions for our customers.
You will identify pressures on wastewater systems such as maintenance demand, population changes and climate impacts, conduct root‑cause analysis and promote solutions that align with Scottish Water’s strategic ambitions. You will provide technical expertise across a portfolio that includes treatment works, critical sewers, pumping stations, bio‑resource centres and pumping mains, and you will evaluate the capability and performance of these assets to guide investment decisions.
Data drives our decisions; by applying root‑cause analysis principles you will help predict asset failures and define future investment scenarios. You will advocate for low‑carbon solutions, accelerate adoption of nature‑based technologies, and help develop and assess new tools such as generative design, working with Technical Support & Assurance Engineers to standardise products, designs and processes.
The role requires a degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent) and demonstrable experience delivering projects in a Project Manager capacity, preferably within the water or waste‑treatment sector. You should have experience evaluating process treatment plants and civil infrastructure, a solid understanding of wastewater treatment technologies, and familiarity with Scottish Water’s regulatory framework and Capital Delivery Plan.
Strong communication, negotiation, liaison and influencing skills are essential to explain complex technical issues. You must be a problem‑solver with a good grasp of MS Office, comfortable acting as an early adopter of new technologies and software programmes.
We support work‑life balance with 38 days of holiday (including public holidays) plus the option to buy five additional days, two paid volunteering days, flexible hybrid working and family‑friendly policies for adoption, maternity and parental leave. Employees also receive a generous pension, life assurance, an annual bonus and access to SW Splash rewards that provide savings on holidays, bills and shopping.
The position is Grade 7 with a starting salary of £44,030, progressing up to £55,000 based on performance. Applications close on 4 February 2026; the role is balanced hybrid, requiring half‑time in a Scottish Water location, and candidates must be willing to relocate to Scotland within three months of joining. Pre‑employment screening, including references and criminal record checks, will be carried out, and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
Water is essential to life and to the communities in which we live and work across every corner of Scotland. At Scottish Water we’re focused on delivering the highest quality drinking water ever in Scotland and returning waste water safely to the environment every day of the year.
