The Chief Engineer is responsible for operational management, daily leadership, and administration of the engineering team to operate machinery and systems safely, efficiently, and cost‑effectively. The goal is to maintain 100 % uptime, protect client assets, and drive reliability‑based maintenance while continuously improving maintenance practices.
Day‑to‑day duties include monitoring and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems such as HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, pumps, and piping; overseeing preventive maintenance and repair schedules; managing inventory and procurement of tools and supplies; supervising contractor activities; and developing and updating procedures and regulatory documentation. The role also ensures safety compliance, provides staff training, and oversees the Critical Facility Work Authorization process.
Required qualifications include at least 7 years of facility‑related experience, managerial experience overseeing building engineers, comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes, and exposure to HVAC, fluid handling, mechanical, welding, and electrical systems. Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Office and CMMS systems, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service.
Preferred qualifications are certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs (or within 90 days of hire) and an Operating Engineer’s license (SMA) or equivalent. This position does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
The position is Chief Engineer at the Cisco Campus in San Jose, CA. Pay ranges from $93.35 to $102.68 per hour (DOE) with a schedule of Monday‑Friday, 6 a.m. – 3 p.m., offering some flexibility. This role reports to JLL and focuses on operational leadership of the engineering team.
The estimated total compensation is $194,168 – $213,574 per year, though actual packages may vary based on qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
