The contractor will support the OLPA by writing treatments and scripts, conducting necessary research and interviews. While an on‑site contractor may serve as lead writer on certain projects, they will primarily coordinate with OLPA staff, NSF personnel, university researchers, and public information officers. Scripts must convey science news, concepts, and NSF programs in an engaging, easy‑to‑understand video format for diverse audiences, typically under four minutes.
- Set up and break down equipment, sets, and props.
- Operate audio, lighting, and teleprompter systems.
- Direct camera operators and on‑camera talent.
- Shoot single‑camera, multi‑camera, and livestream productions.
- Edit video using Adobe Premiere Pro, handling projects from interviews to complex documentaries with graphics and effects.
- Create graphics and animations with Photoshop, After Effects, and optionally 3D software; ensure at least one contractor masters Photoshop and After Effects.
- Provide narration to meet tight production schedules.
- Produce video files for distribution using compression tools.
- Publish videos on NSF and external platforms, including metadata, descriptions, and closed captions.
- Coordinate with distribution partners and fulfill b‑roll requests in required formats.
- Market NSF videos to potential distributors.
- Acquire and manage externally produced NSF‑related video content, secure usage permissions, and integrate into NSF content management systems.
- Set lighting, capture videography and audio in studio and on‑site locations.
- Integrate on‑camera and narration audio with music and sound effects during editing.
- Lead crew in camera, switcher, and web streaming equipment setup and operation.

The role requires occasional standing, walking, sitting, and using hands to handle equipment or tools. Employees must be able to climb stairs, lift or move up to 25 pounds, and perform other physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, and balancing.
- Possess a minimum of five years’ experience in video production, editing, and post‑production.
- Master Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects; demonstrate intermediate Photoshop skills.
- Preferred: on‑camera experience, mastery of the full Adobe Creative Suite, and creative problem‑solving.
