A diversified energy infrastructure company with natural gas, power generation, and utilities operations.
The Sales Support Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for assigned customers and channel partners, working closely with Business Development Managers (BDMs) and providing backup to the broader team. Operating largely independently with limited supervision, the role offers strong preparation for future sales or operations positions.
Key duties include handling customer set‑ups such as uploading LOA/E documents, usage data, credit information, and bill copies; generating pricing quotes and refreshes; initiating contract proposals; creating generic and matrix entries; building gas usage profiles and processing non‑EDI requests; and stepping in for BDMs to price, execute, and implement contracts. The specialist also participates in WGL Energy events, maintains pipeline reporting, negotiates pricing and contract terms, obtains and verifies utility usage data for cost‑saving analyses, and maintains contact records through email, Salesforce, phone, and mailings.
The specialist contributes to the assessment and development of B2B business intelligence tools—including Salesforce, the ECHO contract management system, and DocuSign—by testing new IT enhancements and providing feedback. Responsibilities also encompass coordinating RFP responses, collaborating with functional teams to develop new programs or procedures that improve the sales process, and ensuring compliance with WGL Energy policies while embodying the company’s core values.
In the public sector segment, the specialist independently receives, researches, and responds to inquiries from public‑sector customers and partners, covering contract documentation, billing issues, account usage, and other requests. Acting as the chief problem‑solver for the public‑sector sales team, the role requires limited supervision and close collaboration with BDMs and supervisors to review project status and meet objectives.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and at least one year of relevant work, or three years in sales support, customer service, or administrative roles. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, formulas), and web‑based applications such as Oracle, Salesforce, DocuCollab, VertexOne, and DocuSign. Strong independent work habits, flexibility, organizational, analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills are essential, along with a track record of achieving results and building effective relationships.
