  • Provide technical guidance on the coordination and compliant disposal of waste streams (e.g., hazardous waste, recycling, shredding, office, construction, cafeteria, fleet), ensuring alignment with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Assist in providing environmental and environmental regulation advice, information and training to site supervisors and managers, field and office staff as well as external service providers and 3rd parties.
  • Assist with the liaison with the City of London, community and key stakeholders on environmental incidents and other environmental matters.
  • Perform environmental emergency response activities, including field visits, coordination with external service providers and 3rd parties, providing direct support and technical guidance to field crews and supervisors to ensure procedures are compliant with regulatory requirements and EMS processes and procedures.
  • Assist with providing quality control to ensure external contractors conform to London Hydro environmental standards and procedures. Intervene immediately as required to ensure environmental practices are being followed. Inspect, record deficiencies and discuss quality issues with the contractor’s supervisor, escalating issues to the Environmental Supervisor for resolution.
  • Respond efficiently and effectively to inquiries and requests for assistance from other departments.
  • Assist in the documentation of departmental budgets, processing of invoices and tracking of expenses.
  • Assist with the maintenance of London Hydro’s Safety Data Sheet inventory.
  • Assemble information for regulatory and internal reporting. Coordinate, collect, verify, organize and maintain metrics/KPIs.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to corporate, divisional and departmental initiatives related to environmental programs / matters, energy conservation, waste management, and corporate sustainability.
  • Assist with documentation of environmental incidents and with the maintenance of all other departmental records. Assist with accurate and timely record-keeping and reporting in relation to compliance with relevant environmental regulations, standards, codes and internal practices.
  • Arrange and attend appointments and meetings. Assist with environmental committees/teams and/or corporate environmental events.
  • Provide administrative support for departmental business processes. Prepare correspondence, memos, meeting agendas and minutes, reports, and other departmental communications.
  • Receive inbound and make outbound calls from/to contractors, regulatory agencies, customers and London Hydro employees. Receive and dispatch trouble calls pertaining to environmental matters.
  • Conduct environmental site inspections and investigations, and prepare internal and regulatory reports.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to London Hydro’s commercial, industrial, institutional and residential customers in relation to environmental and/or energy conservation programs. Coordinate with other departments to ensure prompt customer service and delivery of relevant information. Represent London Hydro at events, functions and workshops. Maintain customer relationship management records.
  • Identify and assist with improvements and digitalization to environmental systems, processes and workflows to help ensure environmental compliance, effectiveness and productivity.

London Hydro is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Technician to support our environmental, sustainability, and energy conservation initiatives. In this role, you’ll provide both technical and administrative expertise to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and corporate standards. You’ll conduct site inspections, support emergency response efforts, coordinate waste management programs, and assist with environmental reporting and stakeholder engagement.

  • Effective problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and written and oral communication. Ability to deliver presentations to groups.
  • Driver's License Class G (a driver's license and an ability to drive is required in order to discharge the essential duties of the position).
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel) / Google Suite.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviour on a consistent day-to-day basis.
  • Completion of a two-year community college diploma in a relevant technical discipline, preferably Environmental or Electrical Engineering Technician, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Electrical Utility Engineering & Operations would be an asset
