OSP Walkout Engineer

Description

The OSP Engineer position is based in Albuquerque, NM and focuses on the design, estimation, construction, and maintenance of underground and aerial fiber‑optic plant infrastructure. The role involves creating detailed engineering plans, cost and schedule estimates, and collaborating with utilities, permitting agencies, communication companies, and customers.

• Create construction plans for specific projects
• Produce design adjustments as needed
• Conduct project walk‑outs
• Communicate project design with customers
• Coordinate with permitters and project manager
• Review and recommend improved project procedures
• Create and tabulate construction bill of materials
• Obtain measurements and documentation for permits
• Communicate project updates to management
• Perform work using required tools (measurement wheel, height stick, etc.)

Requirements

Physical demands include standing for up to 12 hours, lifting up to 75 pounds, and performing repetitive motions such as climbing, kneeling, reaching, and crawling. Workers must have adequate vision for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and be able to follow safety instructions.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• General knowledge of underground and overhead utilities
• Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
• Self‑motivated and able to work independently
• High attention to detail
• Experience with AutoCAD (preferred)
• 1–3 years telecommunications experience (preferred)

Benefits

This full‑time hourly role pays $21–$26 per hour and requires a minimum of 40 hours per week. Employees work primarily outdoors and must be prepared for a range of weather conditions, terrain, and traffic environments, as well as exposure to natural gas, electrical hazards, and moderate noise levels.
