Project Accountant

Description

The Project Accountant implements and manages the project accounting function across multiple projects, handling set‑up, cost tracking, reporting, forecasting, and invoicing. The role collaborates closely with project management, scheduling, supply chain, and accounting teams to monitor, report, and forecast project performance.

• Set up projects and establish WBS structure
• Review and analyze weekly project costs for appropriateness
• Initiate customer billing and coordinate cash collections with project management
• Review AP hold list and update vendor accruals as needed
• Ensure POC revenue recognition aligns with US GAAP and project financials
• Generate monthly revenue/cost forecasts and cash flow projections
• Report project performance by comparing actuals to planned revenue, gross profit, billing, and cash receipts
• Communicate variances to management effectively
• Track changes to revenue or cost estimates via contract change notice procedures
• Produce monthly Project Status Report and ad‑hoc analyses
• Respond promptly to internal and external audit requests
• Monitor schedule progress against baseline and support meeting milestones
• Perform quarterly forecasting
• Maintain change management program and change order log
• Maintain project risk and opportunity register and contingency draw‑down plan
• Develop bi‑weekly and monthly reports to satisfy client/contract requirements
• Conduct project close‑out activities and participate in lessons‑learned sessions
• Attend site visits as required

Requirements

The position requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, at least five years of project accounting experience, and strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Expertise in percentage‑of‑completion accounting, forecasting, and change management is essential, along with a detail‑oriented approach and high accuracy.
