Contract Surety Underwriting Branch Manager

The Contract Surety Regional Manager is responsible for servicing an existing client portfolio and developing new relationships within their designated territory. They are proficient in all aspects of the contract surety underwriting process and aware of local and statutory nuances. As a self-starter, they execute daily duties within their underwriting authority, maintaining clear, organized documentation of decision-making. Submissions or requests that exceed their authority are escalated to senior leadership, along with recommendations. They thrive both independently and as part of a team, taking a proactive approach to their work. Above all, they cultivate a “trusted advisor” relationship with agents and clients, balancing technical underwriting expertise with exceptional service.

• Assess the acceptability of surety risks based on underwriting guidelines and marketing strategies.
• Represent the company at industry events such as NASBP, WBE, and MBE gatherings.
• Meet production, marketing, and profitability goals while assisting in the development of marketing plans.
• Monitor risk exposure through analysis of quarterly statements and work in progress data.
• Review new submissions, bond requests, and lines of authority to ensure timely responses and an excellent client experience.
• Prepare underwriting submissions and present recommendations to senior staff when requests exceed authority.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents/brokers.
• Manage an assigned territory and oversee a book of contract surety business.
• Perform analytical evaluations of financial statements on both a static and trend basis to determine the financial position of accounts.

• Minimum of seven years of experience in the contract surety industry.
• Strong knowledge of contract terms, variations, and construction accounting.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
