Small Engine Mechanic

Description

• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and follow written/oral directives.
• Perform or assist with fluid and filter changes, sample analysis, and safety inspections.
• Assist in medium and heavy truck repairs, including tires, brakes, air suspension, and component replacements.
• Support field equipment repairs such as undercarriage work, G.E.T., and teardown/assembly of dozers, excavators, loaders, pavers, rollers, and support vehicles.
• Help lead welders with cutting, torching, fabricating, and basic stick and wire welding tasks.
• Participate in winter rebuilds of paving equipment, including cleaning, teardown, inspection, parts ordering, and re‑assembly.
• Complete additional training on shop processes, time‑sheet entry, safety courses, AMU/CATU systems, and OEM electronic tooling platforms (CAT SIS, Volvo Prosis, Cummins Insite, Paccar Davie).

Requirements

The apprenticeship rotates through multiple shop departments—including PM, truck, field, welding, and winter rebuild—under the guidance of an assigned mentor, providing hands-on experience with heavy equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Additional classroom-style training covers shop procedures, safety courses, AMU/CATU modules, and OEM electronic tooling programs.

• Possess a high school diploma, GED, or Trade School credential and a valid driver’s license.
• Availability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
• Demonstrate strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Work independently with a proactive, can‑do attitude while adhering to required PPE.
