Johnson Controls Inc. is looking for forward‑thinking talent to join our organization and support the fast‑growing HVAC business in North America. The company is committed to the health and safety of employees, customers, partners, and the communities it serves. At Johnson Controls you will have the chance to work on light‑commercial and heavy‑commercial teams using the most advanced equipment, within an open, collaborative, results‑oriented, and fun culture.
We are seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics with practical experience in HVAC piping, plumbing, pipe‑fitting, and mechanical equipment service. Mechanics must have hands‑on experience with light‑commercial or commercial mechanical equipment and may be required to pass an examination to demonstrate special skills. Scope of work is limited to commercial HVACR service, partnering with journeymen to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, absorption machines, open‑drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems, and to perform maintenance, repair, and replacement on heating and cooling systems.
Candidates must be a member, or willing to join, the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry and be dedicated to a North America branch team. Twelve years of commercial/industrial mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience in HVAC, petro‑chemical, or data‑center environments is required, including work on rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing. Ability to lead large complex repairs, install complete systems, conduct shaft alignment, and use vibration equipment for drivetrain diagnostics is essential.
Additional qualifications include maintaining ammonia and hydrocarbon safety certifications, holding a universal EPA refrigerant license, applicable state or local licenses, and a valid driver’s license. Strong interpersonal, digital, and written communication skills are needed to explain problems, causes, corrective actions, and to provide quotes and participate in the Service Plus Rewards program. A self‑starter with a passion for learning, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety is expected.
Johnson Controls provides factory certification through the Service Technical Academy, along with monetary rewards, advancement opportunities, and incentive programs that prioritize employee safety. Employees receive tools, uniforms, and a company vehicle to deliver the highest level of service, solve facility inefficiencies, and act as trusted advisors during commissioning and aftermarket service. Mechanics also provide recommendations, upselling opportunities, and quotes to ensure efficient facility operation.
The position offers a $50 hourly rate determined by the collective bargaining agreement and benefits provided through a local labor union. Career development is supported through training programs, knowledge examinations, and on‑the‑job mentorship with other mechanics, servicers, and apprentices.
