Reporting to the General Manager of the Alberta region, the Commodity Trader is responsible for buying and selling lumber, OSB, wood panels and other selected product categories, as well as meeting net sales, margin and volume targets. The role drives excellent customer service by ensuring the ordering process is accurate, consistent and timely from start to finish. It also involves ongoing dialogue with customers to assess current and projected needs and to respond to daily price and market fluctuations.
The successful candidate is comfortable making proactive outbound sales calls to determine customer needs and provide immediate quotes, communicating effectively by phone and email at all organizational levels. An intuitive nature enables anticipation and navigation of fluctuating market conditions, allowing the trader to develop and share market opinions based on input from customers, suppliers and internal managers. A positive, ‘glass‑half‑full’ attitude is also valued.
A high school diploma is the minimum requirement, while post‑secondary education in Business is preferred.
