

Provides services and infrastructure to support Vancouver's growth, well-being, and development.
Essential functions include performing safety inspections and preventative maintenance; diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, hydraulics, emissions, and various mechanical components; recording work in the vehicle maintenance system; researching specialty parts; staying current with new diagnostic tools and technology; providing mobile field repairs; maintaining stationary generators; researching and installing safety and communication devices; designing, fabricating and welding custom parts; and repairing field items such as catch‑basin grates and playground equipment.
Qualifications require at least three years of diesel, automotive or alternative‑technology maintenance experience and an associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent training. Candidates must be proficient with vehicle maintenance software (preferably RTA Fleet Management System) and have basic Microsoft Outlook skills. Required licenses include a valid driver’s license and ASE certification (preferred). The applicant must obtain within one year a Class A commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement, and within six months an emissions and forklift certification, plus a CPR/First Aid card within three months.
Knowledge expectations cover tools and procedures for gas, diesel, alternative‑fuel equipment; environmental safety and waste handling; preventive maintenance for automotive and construction equipment; hydraulic, high‑pressure air and water systems; current industry standards; internal‑combustion engine and hydraulic equipment care; welding and fabrication methods; and use of diagnostic software and office computers.
The role requires the ability to work independently, operate a personal computer, follow City operating principles, deliver excellent customer service, maintain attendance, respect diversity, promote safety, recognize hazards, and comply with personal protective equipment and reporting requirements.

The City is hiring a Fleet Services Technician (swing‑shift) reporting to the Fleet Services Supervisor. The role involves routine safety inspections, servicing and maintenance of a diverse fleet including emergency response vehicles, construction equipment, automotive, vacuum, jetter, aerial lift, dump trucks, sweepers, paving equipment, trailers and specialty power‑driven equipment. The position is full‑time, non‑exempt, union‑represented, with a M‑Th 3:30 pm‑2 am swing‑shift that includes premium pay.
