Senior Plan Check Engineer (FT - Hybrid)

Description

The Senior Plan Check Engineer is responsible for the technical review of construction documents for residential, multi‑family, and commercial projects. This includes evaluating drawings, calculations, soils reports, and other submissions for compliance with the California Building Standards Codes and referenced standards, using engineering judgment to assess life‑safety and structural adequacy.

• Perform technical reviews of construction drawings, calculations, soils reports, and related documents for residential, multi‑family, and commercial projects.
• Assess design adequacy for life‑safety, structural, and code compliance using engineering judgment.
• Interpret maps, electronic plans, and specifications to ensure adherence to California Building Standards Codes and referenced standards.
• Prepare and issue plan‑check correction notices and suggest alternative compliance solutions.
• Supervise and mentor Plan Check Engineers.
• Compile and deliver effective oral and written reports to stakeholders.

Requirements

The role requires a thorough understanding of construction inspection and plan‑review protocols, the ability to read and interpret maps, electronic plans, and specifications, and to coordinate design disciplines. The engineer prepares correction notices, suggests alternate compliance methods, and supervises junior Plan Check Engineers while presenting oral and written reports.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a current California PE license, and possess 5‑10 years of plan‑review experience. Desired certifications include ICC Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing Plans Examiner credentials and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Teams, and Zoom.

Work is performed in a general office setting with occasional site visits, requiring walking, bending, and lifting up to 35 pounds. The position demands independent and team work, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a capacity to remain calm under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.

• Maintain proficiency with electronic plan‑check systems and software such as Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Teams, and Zoom.
