Description

• Perform multi‑state union accounting of benefits, PTO, and other fringe benefits for contract compliance.
• Execute general ledger account reconciliations focused on employee benefit accounts.
• Review and approve monthly journal entries.
• Manage and drive the monthly accounting close process to meet deadlines.
• Use advanced Excel formulas to manipulate large data sets and streamline benefit calculations.
• Calculate employee PTO benefits per union contracts using manual Excel files.
• Research and communicate benefit discrepancies with HR‑benefits, billing, employees, FP&A partners, branch managers, and other internal customers.
• Review and resolve benefit accrual and payment discrepancies internally.
• Maintain and balance accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
• Manage accounting adjustments related to new union rates and benefits from new contracts.
• Reconcile monthly accruals versus payments.
• Produce monthly reports on benefit enrollment versus contract enrollment, provide statistical analysis of financial gains or losses, and flag foreseeable issues to management.
• Research month‑to‑month balance‑sheet and profit‑and‑loss variances.
• Resolve accounting discrepancies arising from benefit payments to union employees.
• Prepare annual year‑end multi‑employer reporting for the SEC team.
• Supervise and train benefit accountants.
• Execute special projects and other assigned duties.
• Assist in preparing plans, policies, documents, and reports such as EEO‑1, affirmative action plans, organizational charts, labor agreements, and employee handbooks.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA rules and regulations.
• Prepare documents and records required for contract negotiations and meetings with employee and labor organizations.
• Document, track, and report benefit enrollments, declinations, and contract end dates to ensure proper payroll deductions.
• Ensure contracts are entered correctly into the benefit system.
• Provide PTO reporting to local managers for annual or termination payouts.
• Communicate with local HR, Payroll, and Operations to resolve issues with processing union payments.

Requirements

A successful candidate will have human‑resources knowledge as a backbone to the accounting activities tied to payroll, health and welfare benefits, PTO benefits, retirement benefits, and other fringe benefits. The role may include audit preparations, tax compliance assistance, regulatory documentation, and building relationships with Human Resources, Legal, Union Contacts, and Labor managers at ABM.

The position is a hybrid role, requiring four days per week in the office at 14141 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77478.

• Maintain knowledge of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining agreements, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
• BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, MIS, or Economics.
• 4+ years of general ledger accounting experience in public accounting or industry.
• Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, etc.).
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and mathematical problem‑solving abilities.
• 1–2 years of payroll or benefit accounting experience preferred.
• Understanding of payroll processing requirements is a plus.
• Excellent organization, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and communication abilities.
• Positive attitude, self‑starter, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
