Associate Technical Director - Rail Structures

Description

In this senior technical role you will guide the UK rail portfolio, oversee project execution, and nurture a high‑performing engineering team. Chartered status with ICE or IStructE is required, and the focus is on delivering projects that meet Arcadis’ standards of quality, schedule, and budget.

• Evaluate pursuit opportunities and provide capacity and capability insights for the UK business.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to streamline bid decisions and prepare high‑quality proposals.
• Identify resource needs for pursuits and projects, driving strategic acquisition and coordination.
• Mentor and develop the team’s competency and capacity to meet UK market demands.
• Lead single and multi‑disciplinary design‑and‑build projects, ensuring adherence to BIM, CAD, quantity estimation, and quality management standards.
• Deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and to required quality levels.
• Apply quality management principles to large‑scale UK projects while upholding Arcadis health & safety values.

Requirements

The ideal candidate holds an advanced degree in civil or structural engineering and extensive experience on international infrastructure projects, with proven leadership in the UK sector. Strong communication, strategic decision‑making, and quality‑management capabilities are essential.

• Hold a Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with at least 12 years of international rail, highway, or infrastructure experience.
• Possess ICE or IStructE chartership and prior senior structural engineering experience on UK projects (Network Rail exposure a plus).
• Demonstrate strong written communication, strategic decision‑making, and collaboration across disciplines.
