Ensure the successful delivery of environmental sustainability projects, programs, and external engagements.

Manage the delivery, performance and development of the NY Environmental Sustainability team.

Ensure accurate and timely delivery of external sustainability reporting and disclosures in NY on an ongoing basis along with helping to shape and support rate cases.

The Director of NY Environmental Sustainability is responsible for supporting the NY business unit to drive achievement of National Grid’s environmental sustainability goals as set out in the Responsible Business Charter (RBC). This role will support the NY business in its efforts to deliver on our environmental sustainability goals by leading a small team responsible for embedding environmental RBC commitments and ambitions into end-to-end strategy, planning and performance processes, ensuring NY’s environmental sustainability goals align with Group Responsible Business commitments, overseeing the monitoring and internal reporting progress against BU commitments and fulfilling external environmental sustainability reporting, disclosure, and compliance needs.

  • Oversee the development of NY contributions to other Group environmental sustainability goals such as on biodiversity, supply chains and assurance
  • Encouraging team development through things such personalised development plans
  • Champion NY support for sustainability Communities of Practice (CoPs)
  • Support the CoE to advance environmental sustainability initiatives, such as ESG automation improvements
  • Setting annual objectives, regularly reviewing performance
  • Ensure environmental sustainability commitments are embedded into business performance processes, including Operational Review Meetings (ORM), Business Review Meetings (BRM), Monthly Business Reviews (MBR), quarterly RBC deep dives and feeding YE data into various Group Exec reporting including the CEO Scorecard
  • Ensure the professional development of team members in ways that advance the skills and capabilities of the team and support individual career goals.
  • Support GHG reporting related to NY rate cases to ensure alignment with state and Group reporting requirements
  • Participate in external industry working groups, investor sessions, task forces, conferences, etc. that drive sustainability priorities across the NY business unit.
  • Coordinate with the Sustainability CoE and NY Environmental Sustainability team to regularly refresh of progress against the scope 1, 2, 3 CTP glidepaths where most material; ensure glidepaths are aligned in the BU with key partners including the wider Transformation and Strategy team, relevant operational teams, and where useful NY’s glidepaths

  • Ensure the most material environmental sustainability commitments are embedded into business planning processes and plans, including long-term strategic business planning, annual planning, and quarterly rolling forecasts

  • Experience managing senior relationships across business areas is highly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of direct, people leadership experience - to build a trusting team environment, where all are equally welcomed and valued – is required.
  • A valid drivers license that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 10 years of expertise in environmental sustainability, including in key areas such as GHG emissions accounting, science-based targets, decarbonization levers in the energy sector, nature, etc.
  • Willingness to accept change and provide direction.
  • Ability to relate to and articulate vision to business stakeholders
