The UGE Operator is tasked with operating machinery needed to install underground conduit, cables, transformers, pull boxes, transformer pads, and switchgear components. This role supports the line team and collaborates with department personnel to ensure efficient project execution.
- Operate jobsite equipment safely, such as cranes, bulldozers, excavators, and trenchers.
- Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on machines, including oil and fluid inspections.
- Inspect work areas to ensure proper staking/locating before digging.
- Assist the maintenance crew or serve as laborer when not operating equipment.
- Excavate around live underground and overhead utilities.
- Train, guide, and oversee lower‑graded operators and laborers as needed.
- Load trucks in a safe, accident‑free manner.
- Follow MasTec and customer safety standards and procedures.
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce turnaround times and enhance customer service.

The position requires working in field environments with frequent bending, squatting, climbing, lifting up to 50 lb, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Operators must maintain clear vision, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to distinguish colors while adhering to safety standards.
- Minimum qualification: high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum qualification: at least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Minimum qualification: valid driver's license.
- Preferred qualification: 2+ years of experience.
- Preferred qualification: OSHA 10 certification.
- Preferred qualification: CDL Class A driver's license.
