The Fitter Welder (LG11) works in the Large Pole Assembly Department under the Production Supervisor. The role assembles pole products by tack welding small parts to shafts using GMAW, FCAW, and SAW processes, following codes, procedures, specifications, and drawings. Products must pass ultrasonic testing.
The employee uses GMAW to tack weld components and SAW for structural welds on square or round shafts, handling parts such as base plates, hand holes, arm mountings, and brackets. Tasks include positioning shafts on a stationary turner, operating a jib crane, cutting steel with a plasma torch, and measuring with tape, levels, and angle finders. They also operate motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills while maintaining a clean, LEAN workspace and achieving first‑pass yield standards.
Candidates must read and write English, have 3‑5 years of manufacturing or fabrication experience, and be proficient in reading blueprints and basic math. Certification in FCAW, GMAW, and SAW welding and the ability to lift up to 50 lb are required; experience with overhead cranes is preferred. Preferred candidates also hold a high school diploma or GED, five years of assembly or manufacturing experience, and demonstrate strong quality‑assurance and integrity.
Work is performed primarily in an indoor shop exposed to noise, fumes, heat/cold, dust, welding arcs, chemicals, and confined spaces. Employees must wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes, and be able to stand for the entire shift. Hazards include sharp metal edges, slips, falls, pinch points, high‑pressure air, and material‑handling equipment.
This is a second‑shift (Monday‑Friday, 11 PM‑7 AM) position with an hourly rate of $27.75 plus a $1.00 shift differential. Internal candidates may have their step progression reviewed, and step increases are possible at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years.
