The employee will assist in the planning, layout, and performance of all pipe fitting and fabrication work, adhering to applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. They may also be called upon to work in other crafts appropriate to their training and skills, and must be able to follow direction from a higher‑skilled worker or foreman.
Key responsibilities include maintaining positive working relationships with crew members, producing high‑quality work safely and productively, and ensuring that all materials, tools, equipment, and information are available for the job. The employee is expected to seek opportunities for improvement, understand safety hazards, apply basic math skills, learn to operate tools safely, and eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, and unnecessary material handling. When unsure about any aspect of the work or safety, they must consult a supervisor before proceeding.
Candidates must have one to two years of experience in industrial or commercial construction and a general understanding of the craft work performed. Preference is given to those who have completed the NCCER Core Curriculum or hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and who possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
The role requires up to a 12‑hour shift of hard physical work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions, including climbing and balancing on steel or wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Workers must be able to lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lb occasionally, frequently use their hands to handle objects, reach above shoulder height and below the waist, and occasionally stoop, kneel, or bend. Compliance with all safety standards and the use of personal protective equipment such as steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, and vest is mandatory.
