Engineering Technician

Description

The engineering technician works closely with manufacturing engineers, maintenance personnel, toolmakers, and production staff to execute engineering projects within the plant.

Key responsibilities include supporting machinery replacement projects, developing tooling expertise, managing CNC programming, improving automated manufacturing processes, conducting time studies, and assisting with safety initiatives and new product development while ensuring production schedules remain uninterrupted.

• Read and interpret production drawings to correlate dimensions with process parameters and aid tooling fabrication.
• Troubleshoot implementation issues alongside manufacturing engineers and operators.
• Catalog tooling items in the engineering documentation library and SAP Plant Maintenance; manage 5S storage and vendor orders.
• Write, modify, and review CNC programs for turret, Swiss, and vertical milling machines; select appropriate tooling.
• Collaborate on CNC work‑cell improvements and new manufacturing techniques.
• Identify and reduce bottlenecks in automated sequences; provide PLC programming support and design automation components.
• Perform time studies and recommend replacement machinery to increase throughput.
• Support safety initiatives such as lock‑out/tag‑out and Clear & Try procedures.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel for project tracking and documentation indexing; create CAD models (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
• Measure parts accurately with digital calipers, micrometers, and gage blocks; maintain a clean, organized workbench.

Requirements

• Develop competence in Burndy Littleton tooling system and Bihler NC machine GUI for die and machine set‑ups, process monitoring, and tuning.
• Read production prints and tolerancing conventions; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude with progressive die sets and take ownership of project success, following up on delegated tasks.
• Bonus: knowledge of fits/tolerances, material compositions, GD&T, Excel macros, basic electrical diagnostics, fixture design, and control system logic.
